Times Tables Rock Stars NSPCC Rocks!

Friday 4th February

We're excited to be running a UK competition to help raise the profile of NSPCC Number Day. Number Day is a fun, nationwide, maths-themed fundraising event that helps raise money to support the NSPCC. Every pound you raise will add up to help keep children safe.

To get the most from the day, use the resources, assembly plans and ideas available by registering on the NSPCC Number Day website. After you register, you’ll be provided with everything you need on the Number Day resources site to make your event a success. There is no fee to take part in NSPCC Rocks or participate in NSPCC Number Day, however, we do ask that schools make a donation to the NSPCC. You’ll find details about fundraising when you register to take part in Number Day.

Maths Circle Ltd will also make a £5000 donation to the NSPCC.

What is NSPCC Rocks?

Our NSPCC Rocks competition is a fun and engaging way of boosting enthusiasm for learning the times tables in your school whilst also showing support for NSPCC Number Day.

The aim of the competition is to answer as many questions correctly as possible on the Times Tables Rock Stars platform. Make it a day to remember by holding a dress-up day or including the awesome NSPCC Number Day resources in your lesson plans.

Competition hours are limited to 7.30am to 7.30pm. A 60-minute limit playtime per player will also apply... once a player goes beyond 60 minutes between 7.30 am and 7.30 pm on Friday 4th February, they will still earn coins but will no longer earn points towards the competition. Those 60 minutes do not need to be played in one block - they can be spread throughout the competition hours.

NSPCC Rocks is organised in aid of the NSPCC.

Dress up as a rock star day

On Friday, hold a dress up day where pupils dress as their favourite rock star and make a small donation to the NSPCC!

Run a times table-a-thon

Children can pledge to answer a certain number of questions correctly on Times Tables Rock Stars by the end of the day and ask family and friends to sponsor them.

Dress up for digits

Ask children to dress up as a representation of their favourite number and make a small donation to the NSPCC!

Downloads

To help get your school started we've provided you with a poster and parent letter to promote NSPCC Rocks.

Terms and Conditions

By entering the NSPCC Rocks competition, it will be assumed that you have read these terms and conditions and that you accept them for and on behalf of your school.

  • This competition will run from 07:30 GMT on Friday 4th February 2022 to 19:30 GMT on Friday 4th February 2022 (the “Competition Period”).
  • The competition is open to any school (primary, secondary or all-through schools) located in the United Kingdom only who has either an active school subscription or an active school trial to Times Tables Rock Stars on ttrockstars.com.
  • To enter your school in the competition, please login to your Times Tables Rock Stars account and head to Tournaments > NSPCC Rocks. Please accept the invitation and choose the Maths Classes that you would like to participate in the competition. Please note that Pastoral Classes cannot participate, only Maths Classes can participate.
  • You MUST unenroll any classes you don't want to participate BEFORE the competition starts. Once the competition starts, you cannot change which classes are enrolled or unenrolled.
  • A daily time limit of 60 minutes per player is applied. In other words, each player can earn competition points for up to 60 minutes between 7.30am and 7.30pm. Once the player goes beyond 60 minutes of play, they will still earn coins but will no longer earn points towards the competition, This does not have to be done in a single sitting.

  • The winners of the class competition are the ones with the highest average number of correct answers per pupil who played on Times Tables Rock Stars during the Competition Period.
  • To calculate the average, our algorithm divides by the number of pupils who take part during the Competition Period. There needs to be a minimum of 10 pupils in the class who take part. If only 1 to 9 pupils from a class play during the competition, or there are fewer than 10 pupils in the class, then our algorithm will still divide by 10 for the purpose of the average to simulate there being 10 players in the class.
  • Similarly, to calculate the school's average, our algorithm divides by the number of pupils who take part during the Competition Period but will divide by 10 as a minimum.
  • Answers given correctly by pupils on any game mode within Times Tables Rock Stars count towards the total scores (i.e. to include questions answered in Gig, Garage, Jamming, Studio, Arena, Festival and Soundcheck game modes). This ensures that pupils of all ages and levels can take part.
  • Schools or classes deemed by Maths Circle to be taking measures that give them an unfair advantage may be removed from the competition.
