Times Tables Rock Stars celebrates Maths Weeks England with times tables competition 'England Rocks 2021'!

Join us in celebrating Maths Week England 2021!

Maths Week England is back and bigger than ever! For the third year running, we're sponsoring the event and holding a times tables competition for schools in England. The competition will run from Monday 8th November 2021 to Thursday 11th November 2021!

As with last year's event, competition hours are limited to 7.30am to 7.30pm but, this year, to support player wellbeing even further, we've introduced a daily 60-minute limit per player. Once a player goes beyond 60 minutes between 7.30am and 7.30pm on a given day, they will still earn coins but will no longer earn points towards the competition. Those 60 minutes do not need to be played in one block - they can be spread throughout the competition hours.

More about Maths Week England

Now in it's third year, Maths Week England aims to:

  • Raise the profile of mathematics throughout England.
  • Change the conversation about maths in the population at large to be more positive.
  • Enable children and adults from all social and economic backgrounds to access and enjoy interesting mathematical experiences.
  • Support teachers to plan special low-cost high-impact maths activities at their own schools during Maths Week.
  • Encourage Higher-Education centres to invite schoolchildren to visit for maths events, in order to raise aspirations and encourage a higher take-up of the study of maths at A-level and university.
  • Make maths accessible and enjoyable for people who thought it was an elitist subject for ‘clever’ people.

Remember to register your school on the MWE site. It's free for you but it's important for them as it helps MWE access funding to continue each year.

  • This competition will run from 07:30 Monday 8th November 2021 to 19:30 on Thursday 11th November 2021 (the “Competition Period”).
  • The competition is open to any school (primary, secondary or all-through schools) located in England only who has either an active school subscription or an active school trial to Times Tables Rock Stars on ttrockstars.com.
  • To enter your school in the competition, please login to your Times Tables Rock Stars account and head to Tournaments > England Rocks 2021. Please accept the invitation and choose the Maths Classes that you would like to participate in the competition. Please note that Pastoral Classes cannot participate, only Maths Classes can participate.
  • You MUST unenroll any classes you don't want to participate BEFORE the competition starts. Once the competition starts, you cannot change which classes are enrolled or unenrolled, nor can you move pupils from one class to another.
  • there is also a daily time limit of 60 minutes per player. In other words, each player can earn competition points for up to 60 minutes between 7.30am and 7.30pm. Once the player goes beyond 60 minutes of play on a given day, they will still earn coins but will no longer earn points towards the competition.
Each player can accumulate 60 minutes across the course of each competition day between 7.30am and 7.30pm – they don’t have to play for 60 minutes in a single sitting – and they will get a fresh 60 minutes on each competition day

  • The winners of the class competition are the ones with the highest average number of correct answers per pupil who played on Times Tables Rock Stars during the Competition Period.
  • To calculate the average, our algorithm divides by the number of pupils who take part during the Competition Period. There needs to be a minimum of 10 pupils in the class who take part. If only 1 to 9 pupils from a class play during the competition then our algorithm will still divide by 10 for the purpose of the average to simulate there being 10 players in the class.
  • Similarly, to calculate the school's average, our algorithm divides by the number of pupils who take part during the Competition Period but will divide by 10 as a minimum.
  • Answers given correctly by pupils on any game mode within Times Tables Rock Stars count towards the total scores (i.e. to include questions answered in Gig, Garage, Jamming, Studio, Arena, Festival and Soundcheck game modes). This ensures that pupils of all ages and levels can take part.
  • Schools or classes deemed by Maths Circle to be taking measures that give them an unfair advantage may be removed from the competition.
