5 TIPS FOR MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK

Ahead of Mental Health Awareness Week, which starts on the 15th May, we've put together five tips on how to enhance the playing experience when using Times Tables Rock Stars.

1. TIMER TROUBLE? HIDE THE TIMER OR HEAD TO JAMMING

Did you know? You can hide the timer in Garage!

This allows children to focus on their answers rather than the time.

Alternatively, Jamming mode has no timer at all.

2. REDUCE THE LENGTH OF GAMES IN GARAGE

Garage games usually last three minutes, which to some children, is a little overwhelming. That’s why we’ve created the option to reduce games down to one minute. This can help break up the game into smaller, more manageable chunks; a quick win, with immediate results!

3. DECLUTTER

Using declutter mode…well… declutters the screen!

By removing the ‘clutter’ (timer, images, numpad), the interface is simplified, reducing the amount of potential distractions. This can help to improve children’s ability to focus, meaning they feel more zen whilst playing!

4. ANONYMISE ME

The “anonymise me” setting allows children to replace their name with “Anonymous” on all leaderboards and multiplayer games. This sort of anonymity enables children to focus on their progression without the worry of receiving judgement from others.

By reducing the visibility of a child’s performance, they can focus solely on their own progression, increasing motivation and mastering their skills.

To do this, ask the children to log in and click on their avatar > Settings > toggle Anonymise me.

5. HIDE THE LEADERBOARD

Another option is to hide the leaderboard completely!

On the Settings & Admin > Privacy Settings page, teachers can choose to hide leaderboards from the pupils’ view. Pupils may feel less pressure to be at the top of the leaderboard and instead focus on their own progress and achievement.
