AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND, JOINED IN MATHS.
Rockathon Sydney 2026 sees school students from two countries tackling maths problems together.
Education discourse often places importance on learning times tables as that’s considered an enabler for maths success later on. We wholeheartedly agree!
At Rockathon Sydney 2026, a select group of 9 to 11 year olds, from Australia and New Zealand, known for their supreme times tables recall will put their skills to the test on a series of novel challenges, where reasoning and strategising are key.
“When you know the tables off by heart, you’re ready for all the maths that sits on top, or as I like to say “We go fast to go slow”.
These students can answer any tables question up to 12×12 in a fraction of a second; now, during Rockathon they get to enjoy the satisfaction of attempting juicy maths problems with new friends from another country.
I can’t wait to experience that with them!”

Based on the national competition results, we selected 16 leaderboard-topping students; eight from New Zealand, eight from Australia. The students will team up to solve puzzles together, showing that maths is a universal language that transcends borders.

The day will be wrapped in an electric atmosphere fit for rock stars! Special guests will be in attendance, including a VIP YouTuber and government ministers. The event wouldn’t be complete without a live audience, cheering on the mathematicians from the stands!
