Ahhh TTRS Launch Day. A cacophony of face-paint, leather trousers and hairspray! But, more importantly, a day to kickstart a schoolwide passion for times tables.
Each year that goes by we see more and more creative, engaging, and memorable launch days. On top of this, we’ve read some brilliant launch day tricks and tips straight from the minds of fellow teachers. Combining our array of resources with the creative genius of the teachers of launching past, we’re sharing our Launch Day best practices!
1. DRESS UP!
This is the first step in allowing the children to feel like rock stars for the day! Did we say children? Obviously we mean staff too! Anyone and everyone can get involved with dressing up: children, staff, parents – even the PTA!

2. HOLD AN EPIC ASSEMBLY
Start the day with an energetic punch and hold an assembly to remember. If you’re launching for the very first time, our Launch PowerPoint is perfect for explaining all the important bits; for teachers: how Times Tables Rock Stars can facilitate and ease teaching times tables, and for the children: how and where they can spend their coins!
We’ve seen some other pretty cool ways to jazz up a launch day assembly. ‘Beat the Teacher’ is always popular. To do this, set up a Rock Slam!
Launch Day Assembly is the perfect time for a Certificate Ceremony. We have a wide range of certificates for you to choose from, including a BEST DRESSED certificate – perfect if you go down the dress up route!

3. COMPETITION CRAZY!
This is a day for the big Cs. No not Custard Creams…COMPETITION CRAZY!
Here are three sub-tips on how to muster up some competitive fun:
Arena Mode:
- Get children to play against their classmates in Arena!
- Don’t forget you can now spectate!
Class Battles:
- Get your children to play against other classes in a Battle of the Bands!
- Manually set the length of the battle.
Top of the Rocks:
- Get your children to play against OTHER SCHOOLS in a Top of the Rocks tournament!
- You can choose:
- How long the tournament lasts.
- How the winning school/class/pupil is decided.
- Pupils from both schools play under Rock Names.
4. REWARDS AND AWARDS
We’ve already spoken about certificates in assemblies! But let’s delve into that a little deeper…
Celebrating successes is always important, but receiving your Rock Status Certificate whilst dressed as Sir Rod Stewart? There’s no greater honour.
So Rock Status certificates…
If you have the Stats Bolt-On, you can generate them automatically for your class. See below for instructions on how to do this.
No Bolt-On? No problem! Follow our simple steps below for our Rock Status Certificates…and all the rest!
The Generic Certificates can be used however you like! Here are a few ideas on what to award them for:
- Most Improved.
- Consecutive Daily Logins.
- Quickest Score.
